This last summer I read the excellent book A Most Wanted Man by John le Carré . The plot centers on a Chechen illegal emigrant in Germany who is targeted by Intelligence services for possible rendition. This article in the LA Times reviews the real life case of a legal emigrant rendition and torture

The novel is an excellent read, the true story is sad and disturbing. Most likely the Egyptian Abu Omar was a dangerous man, but kidnapping and torture are the tools and techniques of gangsters and Nazis. These things were done by our government in our name.
